about - Katharine Bentz

Thank you for stopping by! I opened my studio in 2004 and have worked extensively with growing families who return year after year. My heart lies in capturing children's personalities and their interactions with their siblings and parents with not too much emphasis on posing or props. My hope is that in 20 years you'll be able to look over your photographs and see your children exactly as they are now. I welcome you to take a look around and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

I like to keep things simple and fun. My goal is to create portraits that won't ever look dated. I prefer personal touches (such as a child's favorite toy) to props, clean processing, and natural locations filled with beautiful light. I go back to basics to let the subject be the focus of the image.

WHERE ARE THE PHOTOS TAKEN?

Location is up to you, but mostly I shoot at Fairview state park in Madisonville and City Park in New Orleans where the oak trees fill the background of your images with a southern Louisiana style.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Before the photo session, I suggest to parents to not make a big deal of the children having their photo taken. It is best if I can interact with them and catch their true, un-posed personality. Your photo session will be a fun, relaxing experience. The best photographs are taken when the subject is at ease and being themselves.

- ABOUT KATHARINE -

Here is a short and sweet glimpse of who I am:

I am a very much in love wife to the best guy in the world – a collectibles dealer, part-time movie star, and cancer survivor.

Mother to two beautiful kids.

Also mom to a fat dachshund, way-too-happy border collie, twenty-five toed cat, and a sleepy bearded dragon.

I was born in Stavanger, Norway to oil industry parents and moved to Louisiana at age 8.

Some words to describe me: casual, down-to-earth, fun, and bossy.

I am an outdoors enthusiast who loves hiking, biking, and camping.

I am equally left and right-brained. I love numbers as much as I love photography and other creative pursuits.

I welcome the opportunity to meet you and learn a little bit about you too!
